Minnesota leaders address continued unrest after George Floyd’s death

Across the country, protesters have taken to the streets to express their anger over the death of George Floyd, a black man who died after a Minneapolis police officer kept his knee pressed into his neck for more than eight minutes.

In scenes both peaceful and violent across the nation, thousands of protesters chanted “No justice, no peace” and “Say his name. George Floyd.” They hoisted signs reading: “He said I can’t breathe. Justice for George.”

Derek Michael Chauvin was arrested Friday in Minneapolis on charges of third-degree murder and manslaughter in connection with Floyd’s death.

Saturday morning, after 72 hours of unrest in Minneapolis, Gov. Tim Walz described the protest scenes as a “military operation.”

“This is not about George’s death. This is not about inequities that were real. This is about chaos being caused,” Walz said.

Fires, looting and destruction were not isolated to Minneapolis. In Detroit, one person attending a protest was shot to death. Atlanta saw the CNN Center attacked and its mayor pleaded for calm.

To be a police officer is all you need is a high school diploma or a G.E.D and 6 months of police academy so make it longer and add a psychology class alone with how to treat everyone. Get to know your officers and weed out the bad ones and use discipline when they do something

Emmit Till, Rodney King, Eric Garner, Sandra Blair, Michael Brown, are only the tip of the murders. Your policy enforcers continue to execute and shoot us down while unarmed and in compliance. Mothers and Grandmothers live in terror of your chickens with a badge and gun. Most of these ex-military officers have never been deprogrammed from their combat training. They are psychologically damaged individuals who need to be deprogrammed so they can once again become a part of society. They are also emotionally unstable and should NEVER be given a badge to murder! You can't replace a HUMAN LIFE but you can replace a building. I encourage you who are in authority to hear the cries of the people who voted you into office. PEACE!

Please..please now is the time for dialogue with the appropriate community leaders and citizens to bring about measures within the police force that this brutality towards citizens from some of thugs within the police has to stop. Perhaps 6 monthly or yearly assessments( depending on jurisdictions) should be made of police officers for their well being and the well-being of citizens they have pledged to protect so that no police officer slips between the cracks using excessive force. This police officer who was brutal obviously needs help too as it doesn't look like he followed properly policies and procedures with George Floyd ,surely other officers know who amongst them have racial tendencies towards ethnic or certain groups in the community. I recommend DrJordon Peterson be called in for his take and guidance with this issue. Thoughts for you all in America from Australia.

Nebraska man paddles 38 miles in hollow pumpkin, sets new world record | USA TODAY #Shorts

Published

on

A Nebraska man set a new record after he paddled the Missouri River for 38 miles in a hollowed-out pumpkin.

RELATED: Goat with long ears headed to a world record https://bit.ly/3PVEqtD

In the age-old fairytale, Cinderella travels in a giant pumpkin carriage to meet her prince. In real life, everyday man Duane Hansen paddled in an 846-pound floating pumpkin for 38 miles in the Missouri River to attain a world record – on his 60th birthday, no less. People are calling him “Cinderfella.”

It took Hansen, of Syracuse, Neb., nearly a decade to grow the giant gourd named “Berta,” before he hollowed it out and created a cooler inside that made it sustainable to float in for a river journey. That dedication made it possible for him to eclipse the previous world record for the “longest journey by a pumpkin boat,” as Hansen paddled “SS Berta” for 11 hours.

Hansen is set to take over Rick Swenson’s 2016 Guinness World Record completed for a 25-mile trip from Grand Forks, N.D., to Oslo, Minn. Guinness World Records still has to approve the trek. To validate a record, Guinness requires evidence with its submissions, including photos, videos and witness statements. But there should be no shortage of evidence, considering Hansen’s feat was all over social media.
