LIFE ON-BOARD A SUBMARINE! https://youtu.be/ECGb_jy1QE8
LEARN WHAT IT’S LIKE IN THE ROYAL NAVY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BTti-snfKg
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW QUESTION #1 – Why do you want to join the Royal Navy? 06:08
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW QUESTION #2 – What have you done to prepare for life in the Royal Navy? 06:48
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW QUESTION #3 – What are your strengths? 07:24
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW QUESTION #4 – What do you do in your free time? 08:02
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW TIP #1 – Write down the reason why you want to join the Royal Navy before your interview.
So, near the start of your Royal Navy interview, they will ask you why you want to join. Good reasons for joining the Royal Navy include:
• Being part of a fantastic team that is driven by discipline and achieving great things.
• Gaining a good trade and qualifications while receiving top-class training.
• Working for an organization that is steeped in tremendous history and feeling proud to be a part of a military organization that is respected around the world.
• Travelling the world and experiencing different cultures which will make you a better person.
• Expanding your skillset while working alongside other motivated and talented people who will push you to be your best.
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW TIP #2 – Research the Royal Navy website.
During your Royal Navy interview, they will ask you what you know about the Royal Navy. They will say: tell me what you know about the Royal Navy.
A great place to start with your research is to look at the Royal Navy website especially focusing on the following 3 areas:
#1. The ‘WHAT WE DO’ section – read up on what the Royal Navy actually does!
#2. The ‘EQUIPMENT’ section – familiarise yourself with the ships, aircraft and weapons the Royal Navy uses.
#3. The ‘NEWS & ACTIVITY’ section – find out what the Royal Navy is doing right now in terms of patrols, exercises, and the latest ships and aircraft that form part of this brilliant organization.
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW TIP #3 – Think carefully why you have chosen your Royal Navy trade or area of specialism.
At some stage during your Royal Navy interview, they will ask you to explain why you have chosen your area of specialism. I recommend writing down 3-5 reasons why you want the career you have chosen. For example, if you are choosing a career in engineering, you could say this:
“I want a career in engineering because I am a practical, hands-on person who enjoys exploring how things work. A career as an engineer in the Royal Navy will give me a chance to learn many new skills, be innovative, and work with equipment that is at the cutting edge of technology.”
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW TIP #4 – Before your interview, have a fitness action plan in place.
During the Royal Navy selection process, the recruitment staff will want to know what you are doing to stay fit. For example, before I attended my Royal Navy interview, I got up at 6am every morning and ran three miles, swam twice a week in the evenings, and played football as part of a team. Those three fitness activities helped me pass the selection process. Make sure you have a fitness plan in place, and more importantly, you are involved in some form of team sports!
ROYAL NAVY INTERVIEW TIP #5 – Consider carefully how you will cope with being away from home.
When I joined the Royal Navy, I hadn’t spent much time away from home apart from a couple camping trips with friends. When I started my basic training, it was tough because I missed my friends and family.
During your interview, they will ask you to tell them how you will cope with losing most of your personal freedom, so make sure you have a good answer prepared. If you have experience of being away from home, then it makes it far easier for you to answer this question.

Some quick pointers for the interview:
The more you know the more they'll ask. Whatever your level of knowledge is, they'll keep probing until they get to the end of it. So when asked about aircraft and you say Typhoon, they'll ask what its main role is. If you know that they'll ask what bases it operates out of. If you know that they'll ask what squadrons operate it. If you know that they'll ask what weapons it has. If you know that they'll ask what engine it has. If you know that they'll ask more specific specs. And so on, they'll just keep going until you say, "I don't know."
If you've only wanted to join the RAF in the past couple of months because you saw the advert on TV, just say that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that answer – that's why they run TV ads, to get people to sign up! If you say you've always wanted to join the RAF since you were a little boy/girl, I can almost guarantee they will respond by asking if you did air cadets. If you didn't do air cadets, their bull shit alarms are gonna start going off.
Finally, they DO NOT have a sense of humour. Don't crack jokes to try and build a rapport, it won't work. A friend of mine used an example of him taking responsibility of the cooking during an outward bound week. He said "I decided to take on the role of chef as I didn't fancy eating salmonella for a week!" They just looked at him completely blankly where he was expecting a chuckle or a smile.

My choice was either to do 2-years National Service or sign on for an extended period, I signed on for 5 years. I would go back to arriving at my first medical posting to RAF Hospital Wegberg, Germany, 24 December 1956, in a heartbeat. Operating Theatre Staff. You have a. Few typos in your various card details, easily done, I will let you find them. Regards, ex RAF, my one and only choice.

Hey just need some advice, I passed my interview today but a bit worried for the medical as I didn’t declare to the RAF that in the past I applied for the navy and was medically unfit. I’m all good now, however just worried if Capita kept my history and would get discharged for not telling the raf. Thank you

Thank you so much for this video, I have my filter interview in a months time however this is via phone all due to COVID, I’m positive about my mindset and technical skills but I’m a bit concerned about my fitness, do you have any advice for anyone with regards to the fitness tests?
@roberthamill1107
March 29, 2024 at 5:19 pm
I've got my aptitude test next month and because of Covid my interview I believe will be done over the phone. Should I still prepare for it in the same way? Also upon looking online at the selection process interview it says its covers the same 5 areas that what you put when you applied.
Family, education, work, hobbies and pastimes, and why you want to join the RAF.
Should I have notes written down about the trade I want to do and some back ground into the RAF and their roles etc?
I don't remember having to be this prepared when I first joined back in 1998, but guess thing's have changed alot in the process of joining
